Roar-a-thon Recap

You truly never appreciate what you have until it’s gone.

I know I didn’t truly appreciate the comfort of sitting down until i gave it up for 17 hours straight last weekend.

Last weekend, on April 14-15, FIU hosted its annual dance marathon, Roar-a-thon. Over 400 students participated this year, including some of our fellow Panther Camp Facilitators and Peer Advisors. We represented the Orientation and Parent Programming Office (OPP), and even won an award for being the most outstanding student organization that participated!

But the real prize was seeing the happiness brought to the children we were helping by raising this money for the Children’s miracle network hospitals.

The “miracle children” Melanie, Dylan, Max, Jacob and Lis all came to visit us throughout the event. Each one brought us a new sense of purpose and determination with their stories of struggle, hope, and positivity. They made the cramped feet and exhaustion worth it knowing we would be contributing to the health of strong kids like these.

Our OPP sponsored Miracle Child, Melanie, sharing her inspiring story

Roar-a-thon raised a grand total of $100,405.97 all FTK (for the kids).

Every step and dance was worth it, knowing that we were standing up for those that can’t.
